富通集団有限公司と光ファイバ、光ケーブル分野での合作事業調印を終えて
弊社プレスリリースで既にご承知かと思いますが、中国は浙江省富陽市に本拠を構える富通集団有限公司と、光ファイバ、光ケーブルの事業を合作で杭州、成都、香港深圳と一挙に三地点で進めることとし、杭州市で調印式を10月16日にとり行いました。式には、省・市の最高幹部、関係者多数のご来臨を賜りました。
晩餐会も盛大で乾杯乾杯の声で会場が包まれました。双方が合意の得られる内容にたどりつくまでには、協議交渉メンバーによる一年間にも及ぶ大変熱心なワーキンググループ活動により練り上げる必要があったものであり、心より感謝と敬意を表するものです。
ＩＴバブルが破裂し、世界の情報産業は甚大な被害を受けましたが、その後復調を遂げ、光ファイバの需給関係は、中国、アメリカ、欧州を含め海外市場が活況で需要が供給を上回る状態です。中国は今や世界一の市場となっており、この時期に信頼のおけるパートナーと合作を進めることは大きな意味をもっていると信じています。
サブプライムローンに端を発した想像を絶する金融経済の破綻が実体経済に多大なる悪影響をおよぼしている状況下でありますが、中国情報産業の潜在成長力を信じて、これまで培ってきた住友電工の力を中国でも大きく華を咲かせたいとの想いで調印式に臨んだ次第です。
事業は当然山有り谷ありであります。Going concern としてパートナーと共に緊張感をもって事に臨み、思いやりの気持ちを忘れずに相互信頼を念頭に、合作事業を拡大させていくことをお互いに誓い合いました。
翌朝は杭州から車で約1時間、杭州の南西に位置する富陽市を訪問し、富通集団の本社と整地が進行中の工場建設地の視察を致しました。一泊二日の出張でありましたので、杭州では朝早く起き、有名な西湖を一時間強かけて早足で楽しんで参りました。
次回は下手な即興七言絶句の紹介とともに西湖報告を致します。

1Dear president,
Is it a bad time when the Wall Street storm began to influence the entity economy economy ? And the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology requested carriers to share optical infrastructure, so the demand for optical fiber will be decreased.
And I really want to know that SEI invested so many companies in China, but there are only one for R&D, do you have any plan to increase the investment for R&D in China?

Thank you for your comment.
As you said, there is a possibility that Chinese business condition gets worse; however, I believe that there will be expansion of fiber optics business in China in the long-term.
Regarding Sumitomo Electric’s R&D, our R&D facilities are basically located in Japan for now.
But as I have stated in my past blog entries on “the Sumitomo Electric Group Global Award Ceremony,” in all Sumitomo Electric Group companies around the world including those in China, manufacturing skills and techniques are on an equally high level.
Just like Sumitomo Electric employees in manufacturing are improving their skills and techniques by learning from and competing with their peers in overseas subsidiaries and affiliates, the time might come that we set up R&D facilities in other parts of the world and our R&D employees can achieve professional growth through cooperation and friendly competition with their global peers.
